Stripping tanks

WARNING - Don't use this caustic stripper on Aluminium ! It dissolves it an an alarming rate.

Since my Nitomors had gone all gungy - I thought I'd try a tip someone gave me a while back.

Get some Caustic Soda ( Wilkinsons ) not 'washing soda', Caustic Soda.

Be careful - its fierce stuff, do not add water 'to it' - add it 'to water'. Why ? - try it ! You won't do it again.

About a heaped tablespoon in half a pint should make the side of the container go quite hot. Let it cool a bit - then sprinkle in, stirring, some wallpaper paste - watch your eyes, strirring !

Now - lay the tank on a sheet of clingfilm. Thouroughly coat all the surface, turn it over onto the film, coat the top - and wrap it up tight. Use a 'nylon' bristled brush, not natural, or you will shortly have a stick not a brush !

Leave it overnight - don gloves, unwrap and scrub off .

Works a treat - cheap too. ( see warning above - NOT for Aluminium ! )

One done - and 'one I done earlier'.
