Three day cruise - Weston to Ilfracombe.

Friday 14th Sept

The sun sets over Steep Holm - as we head into Weston Bay for the Axe entrance

So our three days were to end as I had optimistically promised Ian earlier - the winds died, the skies clear and a setting sun as we tow the dingy homeward bound - the stuff the dreams are made of. He doubted me, especially around about mid morning - crashng about in the swell off Blue Anchor Bay with the skies darkening and rain threatening.

But it was to be - I think the entire trip seems to have had a good omen about it.

We even got her onto her mooring first try - in a stream that was going at about 2.5 kts that early before HW.

As usual, it seemed a fraught rush to get her all shut up and moored up - to get up the river in daylight. I always seem to lose it doing that - its such a contrast to the sailing. I think its then you realise how tired you really are. We had been afloat or 36 hrs - and had only spent about two hrs ashore since Tuesday night.

Made the slipway at Uphill yard just about dark.
